We seem to have fallen into a lull these past couple days. We got off to a late start today, with nothing happening until after 6 PM EST.
It was then that we finally found someone to journey to Fort Mason San Francisco, as none of our faithful CodeHunters were available earlier. Thankfully, a friend of Discord user Wolf.aka_Lapras101 lived less than an hour away and was willing to go hunting for us. A Time Agent met him at the location, and streamed the clue finding from her periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/ruzuki/
Hidden inside a hole on the cannon at black point, he eventually found a capsule, which contained this piece of paper:
This reads: 1 19-5-3-18-5-20 8-9-4-4-5-14 9-14 1-14-15-20-8-5-18 12-9-7-8-20. When decoded with A1Z26, this becomes: “A secret hidden in another light”, which is obviously talking about blacklight. Once he got his hands on a blacklight, he successfully revealed the hidden message “Sydney Australia”.
With some questionable messages from Agent Sprinkles, it sounds like we will have to wait for the Atlanta meetup to further decode the Australia clue. Said Atlanta meetup will be happening tomorrow around 5PM EST with Discord users MCGreekFreak and the insanely cool jared kleinman.
Lastly, the repeated referencing to puzzle pieces seems quite worrisome to many hunters. We can only hope for our own sanity that there will be no Puzzle Hell v2.0. CipherHunt veterans are already experiencing horrified flashbacks.
In any case, it seems our two separate clue paths are converging! Could CodeMageddon be drawing to its close? Only Time will tell.
Happy Hunting! x
#CONSUME
Hi do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior Discord/reddit user SenseiAurelius, who is the sole reason I’m still sane, due to their continuous documentation of this insane hunt ?
Early this morning, Agent Sprinkles released a few more tweets about the clue in Atlanta.
These are decoded as from bottom to top:
“This is Time Agent 3927 from The Time Paradox Avoidance Enforcement Squadron. I am contacting via internet to relay info.”
“I received a special request to deliver the inhabitants of “Atlanta” a confidential item from the evidence bay.”
“Getting the item clearance will be the hardest part. It may take a while. And because of Law 302726 my time runs out exactly like the item.”
Discord user CipherHuntingFamily successfully pinpointed the correct Marriott in Georgia by discovering this object in the lobby of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. This looks remarkably like the golden nautilus shell the hunters in Long Beach were supposed to find.
This was confirmed with a follow up tweet by Agent Sprinkles which read:
“The Lobby Marriott Marquis is the only location I can teleport today. The meetup must be at night. Around 7pm-9pm EST Past Time.”
Unfortunately, no hunters were able to reach the destination at the specified time, so this clue’s pick up has been delayed until tomorrow.
At 11 AM EST, Agent Snowcone updated the location of the book in Wisconsin.
Through some fantastic yagoogling, Discord user DeviouslyDoomed managed to find the location of this “Tiny Library”. 2024 hi mount boulevard Milwaukee, WI.
Soon after around 3 PM EST, Discord users Hilarious Pain and NennaLou arrived in Milwaukee to search for the book “Flatland”. They live streamed finding the clue (while also wearing an awesome fez) on periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/Hilarious_Pain
They successfully found the book, and managed to resist all temptations to CONSUME IT.
It was noted that four pages in the book had math equations in the top and letters crossed out in the text.
PG 1. Equation: (-3 * 7) + 1 Answer: -20
PG 2. Equation: (-190+28)/9 Answer: -18
PG 3. Equation: (-20*3)/4 Answer: -15
PG 4. Equation: 68/2. If even: /2 If odd, *3 +1 Repeat. Answer: 1
After our CodeHunters attempted many decoding methods, Discord user Kyursten came up with the correct answer by shifting the letters in the book text, based on the answer to the equation on each page.
When the crossed out letters were shifted, and then reversed, it revealed the message:
Sing a song of Sixpence A pocket full of stein If you got nerve then you’ve got verve And you’re sure to spot the swine
This riddle stumped our CodeHunters for quite some time, sending them in directions such as England, Germany, France, and so forth. Until Axolotl gave some advice to search for the “Stein song”, which quickly led our hunters to Maine, USA. From here, Discord users Malasky and Kirrasaurus found that “Verve” is a burrito restaurant in Maine, and it just happens that the University the “Stein song” comes from is in the same town as a “Verve” restaurant, coincidence? Our hunters think not!
Luckily, Discord user Saevus Winds is a student at UMaine in Orono, and was quite close to the potential clue location. She streamed the hunt from her periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/saevuswinds
Inside, she found a handmade Waddles’ plush, along with a giftcard to buy a burrito, and instead of CONSUMING THE PIG, she stabbed it open, and revealed a clue. (Sidenote: it was meant to be opened)
Inside of Waddle’s stomach Saevus Winds found this clue:
Within seconds our clue hunters realized something was written in Braille on the yarn. But after many struggles with attempting to read the the yarn, Discord user Jenna 1002 decoded:
“Richard Black Point Cannon”
From that, Discord user ohibridget was the first to successfully pin it to Fort Mason’s Black Point San Francisco. Once this was decided, Agent Mari mentioned that at 12 PM PST, an Agent will be at the Fort with prizes for the clue hunters.
In wrap up, we may have hunters heading to Fort Mason tomorrow afternoon; and the Atlanta clue has most likely been delayed until Saturday, so that Discord users MCGreekFreak and the insanely cool jared kleinman can meet up with Agent Sprinkles at 5 PM EST.
If anyone is near San Francisco, please confirm if you can be at location on Fort Mason tomorrow after 12 PM PST.
Until then, CodeHunters!
Happy Hunting! x
“But you weren’t online at all today,” you tell me. “How is it that you’re still so well-informed of what’s going on?” Well, my friend, that’s because these posts are essentially ghostwritten for me by Discord/reddit user SenseiAurelius, who is a gift to us all.
Unlike previous days in this adventure, we had a relatively light day today!
Early at 3 AM EST, the Axolotl foiled a plot by Bill to edit the poem for the Milwaukee clue and leave out crucial information. This led to a revised version of the poem:
Where a museum flaps its wings like a swan by a lake In four miles as the crow flies There is a room of fireflies Many poems, law and otherwise It doesn’t stick out at all It knows nothing about being tall.
This poem contained an additional line, which our hunters quickly deciphered to mean that the location of the Flatland book is not at the Milwaukee art museum, but it is actually 4 miles away from it.
Our CodeHunters debated for a while about possible locations, but none seemed to fit the “room of fireflies clue” and be exactly 4 miles from the museum. Eventually the hunters planned to send a team to both the Atkinson Library and the Washington park Library in Milwaukee, WI. Unfortunately miles are no longer used in the future and there was a miscalculation converting to this time period’s measurements. It instead should have read 6 miles.
Our CodeHunters quickly returned to a previous clue idea, which was the Wauwatosa Public Library, because it has a famous “firefly room”, and is exactly 6 miles from the art museum. But none of the hunters were available to reach the location until tomorrow, so this clue was put on hold.
Meanwhile, our CodeHunters from the Disney clue yesterday met back up again to explore Pine Avenue Pier in Long Beach, CA. Discord users Shaduf, Brigit, Marciblook, and Lian went off adventuring around 7PM PST for the clue hidden by the Queen Mary. Periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/w/1vOGwvyvrdgKB
Unfortunately when they got to the pier, Bill had already stolen the clue. The life-preserver box that should have held the clue was suspiciously empty.
But the Axolotl saved us by sending us this message that contains the clue.
This was decoded quickly into:
The clue itself was a golden nautilus shell “A similar name to where I was from. Meet contact in lobby of the Mariott. Codeword: Chronological Codemageddonatl”
Within seconds, CodeHunters pointed out that ‘atl’ might stand for Atlanta, Georgia. Then we realized the last line pointed to a new twitter account https://twitter.com/Codemageddonatl
Over the next hour, this twitter account released several tweets which were:
From Bottom to Top these decode as:
“Well, we meet again” “The state of peaches and peanuts. You’re up next.” “I would wait a little bit. Location will be revealed in the morn.” “Planning is key. The time will be announced soon hang in there kiddos. I will be there soon. Time agency work is hard work.”
From this, CodeHunters decided that the clue is somewhere in Georgia, likely in a Marriott Hotel, but we need to wait till tomorrow for more information.
So tomorrow, we’ll see Discord users @NennaLou and @Hilarious Pain heading to the clue in Wauwatosa, WI at around 1:30 CST. And we have a couple hunters in Georgia ready to respond to Agent Sprinkles’ new tweets.
Happy Hunting! x
Today’s summary written almost entirely by my new best friend, Discord/reddit user Sensei Aurelius!
Early this morning, at 9 AM EST, Discord user SamCJensen set out for Portland, Maine to locate the clue there! But unfortunately, they had to leave before they were able to find the clue. But before they left, it became evident they would need to dig for the clue. Periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/SamCJensen
Later, at about 12:15 PM, SamCJensen returned to the clue location––this time, with friends.
After much searching, they found a green tub at around 1PM. Inside it was a scrap of notebook paper containing the recipe for Mabel Juice.
But along with the recipe was a blacklight message! When shone under a blacklight flashlight, CodeHunters found that the numbers “653951” were circled, and the words "James Linnegan has the ticket. Or he did, in the past“ were written on the bottom, and “SJ” was written on the top.
After a lot of guesswork by our CodeHunters, they decided that the most probable next location comes from putting together SJ and 653951 to get a Grid reference to Culcheth in England. Further investigations into that area lead to the discovery of the Culcheth Railway Station, now the Linear Park.
At around 9 PM local, Discord user GoldChimera (coincidentally, also named James) bravely went out searching for the clue. He returned with this ticket, which he found taped under a bench dedicated to James Linnegan.
The QR Code led to 8agency.org/tznv/ . Above it was written “What day is it?”
On the other side, the text read:
GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY NOT TRANSFERABLE —- ON DAY OF ISSUE ONLY CULCHETH TO GLAZEBROOK THIRD CLASS Revised Fare -/6 Culcheth Culcheth Glazebrook Glazebrook
The website required a username and password. After many failed attempts, Discord user Salfur (@salfur) managed to crack it:
Username: jameslinnegan Password: 030121
This led to a page on the 8agency website that contained a link to the best video on youtube: Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
Beneath the video link was “/bc.png”, and a long string of numbers. Adding “/bc.png” to the page’s url produced this page: http://8agency.org/tznv/bc.png.
This page lead to a barcode, which was translated in less than a minute by Discord user Maewi to read: ‘The next clue will be unlocked at 7pm(PST). View #official_updates for details at this time.
Meanwhile, a second group of CodeHunters had set out for the Disney Rose Garden!
Discord users Shaduf and Marciblook were joined by mods Brigit and Lian to search the rose garden, arriving between 6 and 7 PM PST. They were met by two Time Agents, Agent Snowcone and Agnet Tyrnn. At around 7:30 PM PST, Agent Snowcone revealed the clue, and presented it to our CodeHunters! Periscope: https://www.pscp.tv/generalhstrash/1MYxNAnWoaVJw?
Where a museum flaps its wings Like a swan by the lake Is a building with a room of fireflies Many poems, law and otherwise It doesn’t stand out at all It knows nothing about being TALL
This clue was quickly decoded to be the firefly exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum.
However, it was later revealed that this had been solved incorrectly! After more discussion among CodeHunters––and a few prods from the Organizers in the right direction––the new location was uncovered!
Our CodeHunters would need to hit the Milwaukee Art Museum. The A-in-a-box at the bottom of the clue indicated ‘A Square’, the narrator character from the book “Flatland” written by Edwin A Abbott (a book which Alex Hirsch has said describes the dimension that Bill Cipher originates from). So CodeHunters deduced that they would need to search for that book inside museum’s library.
Soon after the Disneyland clue was found, the timer from the clue discovered in Culcheth ran out. This turned out to be a massive Kahoot (Trivia quiz game) with 118 questions, where the winner would receive the next clue.
The trivia included questions which ranged from easy to insane, including Mari’s favorite pictured below.
Congrations to Discord user Zettapoke (@zettapoke) for winning the Trivia! For the clue, Zettapoke received both a poem and picture.
My name is horse, and yu shud see, To the west, this clu shud be. Where two brothers once set sayle. I wil tel yu this smal tayle.
On the docks, their boat doth shyne. Glistening with both sea and bryne. Stan O War, the second one – Near the beach, to have some fun.
He fell off, the other throws A ring of sorts, as wayve tows. Stan popped his hed up from the sea, And took hold of the life preservey.
Chuckle, shake off, laugh, They both know they are naught half. They look out twoards the sea, Spot a friend named Mary.
This pier here is mighty fyne. And it goes by the name of __. And wen yu get close to the water To the clue, now ye hotter
And when the twyns Go out for malt – I stay up late, I lik the salt.
The photograph was quickly recognized as showing the Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach, CA. Brigit and Lian are ready to head out once again to investigate tomorrow evening!
Once again, this leaves us with two clues to check out tomorrow:
The Milwaukee Art Museum
The Queen Mary
Until then, CodeHunters!
Happy Hunting! x
Once again, a huge thank you to Discord user SenseiAurelius for helping compile this!
Around 4pm GMT, Discord user Davekara made his way to The Crooked Horn to find last night’s clue. He went on a two-hour trek to find the correct totem pole, where he was met by Agent Ci, one of the CodeMageddon creators! Ci streamed the event on Perisocope: https://www.pscp.tv/BlackerySplodge/1MYxNAmAZXzJw
After a lot of searching, Davekara was able to locate the coded clue!
This was a combined cipher of Vigenere and Caesar, two ciphers seen in the show. With the key ‘Time’, this decodes to MANY RUMOURS TELL OF GIFFANY’S PRESENCE IN THE CITIES OF PINES MALL (Solved by Discord user HopeCvon).
Upon closer inspection with a blacklight, Davekara noticed that there were dots above letters decoded as M, O, and A. This led us to the Mall of America in Minnesota! (Shoutout to discord user Shaduf who guessed this location before the blacklight message was discovered.)
Eventually, with a bit of searching, the next clue found was inside of Eagle Anime Store, in the form of a QR code which the Time Agents symbol in the center.
This led to a dropbox with a audiofile titled “Ciao Ed Duo.mp3” from Blendin that was in Morse Code.
The first part of the recording was solved quickly by Discord user MDave to be “J O I N T H E T I M E A N O M A L Y R E M O V A L”, but the second part was at a quicker tempo and took much longer. But MDave eventually came through and decodedhttp://8agency.org/bblandin/.
This led to a website of pure evil. This website led to many CodeHunters feeling confused, and it was quite overwhelming––but nevertheless, our CodeHunters pushed through! After nearly 9 grueling hours of code cracking and easter egg hunting by the entire team, hidden in the codes of the site / an ascii Bill / an ascii axolotl: were not one, but two locations!
Through viewing the source code, CodeHunters figured out that a majority of the information was a red herring and that they needed to focus on “choosing the correct path”. There were literally pages of Latin text, random ciphers, music puzzles, and sets of coordinates, which were all fake paths.
This was quite challenging because the site acted as a maze––if you clicked on even one wrong page, you would get trapped in an endless labyrinth of useless pages, and would not be able to get back to the correct path without restarting!
CodeHunters started to team together to map the entire site, but eventually decided this was a futile effort. While this was happening, other hunters pieced together the correct sequence of messages, which was:
“Choose the correct path Its very simple All you have to do Is Hold Out Your Hand And make a deal I’ll make everything right again Make the right choice What do you chose”
Now CodeHunters just needed to find a way to link those messages together in the website.
Discord user Shaduf was able to piece this together to reveal a location: 5 Mabel Street, Portland Maine.
Sorted by number lowest to highest: Mabel St, Portland, ME Find the Boulder Walk Past the crossroads Between the smallest twin pines
The second set of coded messages were part of Clue B.
When put in the correct order, the clue revealed this set of numbers which would need to be “used at the place the map indicates”
12-8470: /D.png 16 of 33, 2 14-7788: /C.png 9 of 92, 6 17-8593: 33 of 33, 3 0 64 of 64, 1 19-9383: 30 of 30, 2 27 of 92, 4 20-1696: 26 of 64, 2 15 of 42, 3 20-3295: <None> 20-4288: 26 of 30, 7 19 of 33, 1 31 of 92, 3 21-7897: 16 of 64, 2 23 of 42, 3 7 of 30, 4 21-7915: 87 of 92, 3 47 of 64, 8
The clue also consisted of a blot image, which CodeHunters laid over a map to reveal a location in Washington DC. Specifically: the George Mason Memorial.
This was all solved around 8:30 EST, which was deemed too late for the hunters to begin searching the locations, and the hunt was originally put on hold until tomorrow.
But it turns out our intrepid CodeHunters just weren’t ready to quit! They were able to remotely solve the DC clue by finding a website online that contained transcripts of the memorial’s inscriptions: https://www.nps.gov/nama/planyourvisit/george-mason-memorial.htm
Using the code from the Time Agency website, Discord user Shaduf was able to determine: “each paragraph on the description had a number of words that was like 33, 92, etc so the first number was what word and the second number was the letter within that word”
This led CodeHunters to https://cm2017soos.tumblr.com, and the password was correctly guessed to be fixinit1. This tumblr contains both some Stanfiction written by Soos, and a number puzzle.
Our intrepid CodeHunters quickly got to work trying to figure out this number puzzle!
The first box in each row corresponded to a Stanfic. The second number indicated the paragraph, third the word, and fourth the letter! Using this method, CodeHunters were able to put together:
DISNEYROSEGARDENSIXTOEIGHTPM
This leaves us with two clues to locate tomorrow:
5 Mabel Street, Portland, Maine
Disney Rose Gardens, Anaheim, California, from six to eight pm
Our CodeHunters on Discord were able to solve this clue within a half hour, determining that the location of the clue was at Confusion Hill, California! (shoutout to Discord user Yroo_Xrksvi who solved it first!)
Confusion Hill was home to the 11th clue in the original CipherHunt last summer: a jar of eyeballs. Confusion Hill is also the final resting place of our beloved Bill Cipher statue.
There rests at Confusion Hill a plaque honoring the grave of someone named Minnie. CodeHunters were quickly able to piece together that this must be the location of our next clue.
Unfortunately, we had a time crunch. Confusion Hill would be closing at 5pm, and no one currently online lived close enough to the location to be able to make it there in time.
The CodeMageddon Organizers/Time Agents imposed a time limit: CodeHunters had until 7pm PST to find the clue and inform the rest of the discord server. If it was not found by then, they would release the clue themselves (however, the physical clue would still be at the location if anyone wanted to go find it later).
We thought that would be the end of it. But around 2pm PST, @timetravellingscientist (Discord: Xantusia) announced that they were about 2 hours from Confusion Hill and would be able to go get the clue!
A few hours later, the clue was posted on Xantusia’s twitter:
The first was a photograph. The photograph is “one of 1000 mileposts funded by the royal bank of Scotland to mark the creation of the National Cycle Network”
The second was a coded message. Using the Bifid cipher (Message: lsgovthdtatqyvvev, Key: umxdibwlhfzpocsrvnteqagky, Groupsize: 5) the message was revealed to say: lookatthemetadata
The meta data for the photograph read: Dragon, CH8
‘Dragon’ turned out to be in reference to the Welsh flag. ‘CH8’ is a postal code in Wales. It is most likely that the particular totem in that photograph is located along the bike path in the CH8 area, and will have to be found in order to discover the next clue.
We have a confirmed location for the first clue at Confusion Hill, but no one is available to go check it out. The organizers/Time Agents have set a deadline of 7pmPST tonight to find the clue. If it is not found by then, they will release the clue themselves (but it will still be at the location if anyone wants to go find it later).
